Forget breast implants and tummy tucks. Statistics released by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons have shown that arm lifts are one of the most popular body enhancing procedures.
Since the year 2000, the plastic surgery industry has witnessed a 4000% increase in bookings, averaging around 15000 arm lift surgeries in 2012. Online surveys show many women cite celebrity envy as being their inspiration, with the arms of Michelle Obama, Jessica Biel and Jennifer Aniston the most coveted.
ASPS President Gregory Evans explains that every person is designed to store fat differently and that for some, arms are the trouble areas. Liposuction works best in conjunction with exercise and a healthy diet and is best for women wanting to simply tighten up the area.
“Others may opt for a brachioplasty when there is a fair amount of loose skin present with minimal elasticity,” said Evans. Brachioplasty is generally done on those with loose, flabby skin as a result of losing lost large amounts of weight.
Brachioplasty involves cutting away the excess, leaves a scar from elbow to armpit and usually reserved for certain candidates, whereas liposuction is a less invasive procedure. Always seek professional advice if unsure about what type of surgery is best for you.
