One of the most popular and commonly performed cosmetic procedures, liposuction is still surgical in nature and may not be right for everybody. Dr Michael Tantillo, a plastic surgeon practicing in Boston, advised his patients to carefully consider the results they were seeking to determine if liposuction would be right for them.
Dr Tantillo cautioned that liposuction shouldn’t be thought of as a weight loss measure. Liposuction is primarily used to help remove excess skin, cellulite, or stubborn pockets of fat that won’t go away with diet or exercise. Patients should not expect a major overhaul but rather a tightening up and sculpting of one’s current appearance.
Those considering liposuction should also be near their ideal weight or at least working towards it through diet and exercise. Often liposuction is accompanied by other surgical procedures, such as a tummy tuck, to craft a much more defined and lean physique. Potential patients should also seek a second opinion on such matters as alternative to surgery may be more feasible.
