Surgical vs. Non-Surgical Procedures

Mark Kohout - Wednesday, August 28, 2013
In the past, altering one’s appearance involved going under the knife and enduring painful surgery and long recovery times. However, advances in technology and surgical procedures have drastically reduced recovery times and the chance of potential complications. Furthermore, there is a host of non-surgical procedures for cosmetically concerned patients to consider. One such non-surgical procedure is CoolSculpting. Unlike conventional liposuction, CoolSculpting utilises a series of cold metal plates to freeze fat cells on the surface. Generally used on the back and on the abdomen, a major advantage of CoolSculpting is that patients can be back on their feet immediately after the procedure. Nevertheless, drastic results shouldn’t be anticipated and the procedure is generally recommended as a low cost way to maintain, rather than alter, one’s body. Smartlipo is another non-surgical procedure. A targeted laser is used to break up fat stores into smaller pieces that can be more readily absorbed by the body. Generally results are seen in six to eight weeks and the cumulative effect of numerous procedures can make a lasting difference when combined with proper diet and exercise. http://www.cosmeticsurgerymagazine.com/postview.cfm/POSTID/803
