Lift your breasts and boost your confidence!

Unfortunately it’s a fact of life that breasts droop with age. The effects of ageing, gravity, weight loss and pregnancy all take their toll and can leave breasts sagging and lacking shape. Hormonal changes can soften the ligaments that support the breasts, and tissue stretches when breasts grow with pregnancy or normal weight gain. Often breasts that droop after pregnancy lose tissue and volume and can look flat or wobbly. Once breasts sag there really isn’t any way to get them back to normal other than surgery.

If you are unhappy with your breasts because they sag, find yourself feeling self-conscious or find it hard to find clothes you feel good in, a breast lift can revitalise your breasts, making them firmer and perkier. Sometimes a breast lift is enough to restore your shape to a youthful look, but often where breasts have lost volume or the nipple is pointing below the breast crease, a breast augmentation or enlargement is performed at the same time to give a natural fullness of shape.

You may be a good candidate for breast lift surgery if you have one or more of the following conditions:

  • Breasts that are pendulous, but of satisfactory size.
  • Breasts that lack substance or firmness.
  • Nipples and areolas that point downward especially if they are positioned below the breast crease.

Breast lift – the procedure

A breast lift, or mastopexy, is a surgical procedure performed under general anaesthetic or using intravenous sedation. It takes around one to two hours and you can go home the same day. An incision is made in your breast, excess skin is removed and your nipples and areolas are repositioned. The breast mound is literally lifted higher and given a tighter, firmer appearance. A saline implant may also be inserted in the incision point, if an augmentation is also needed.

Recovery

Once the anaesthetic wears off, you might need some painkillers for the first few days to relieve any discomfort. As with any surgery, you’ll have some swelling and bruising. Your stitches will be taken out after one to two weeks, and you’ll probably be able to return to work after two weeks. We recommend taking it easy for a while – no strenuous upper body exercise for about six weeks.

You’ll have follow up appointments with Dr Kohout to discuss your recovery and results.
