Having problems with large, heavy breasts?
While many women wish for bigger breasts, those who are “blessed” with a large chest can suffer in a number of ways. The weight of large breasts can give you neck pain and upper back pain as you try to balance your body by straining against the weight. You may not be able to keep physically active as your breasts are uncomfortable or sore, and you may even get rashes or fungal infections under your skin. Finding a well fitting bra can be impossible, while you can only dream of strappy dresses and bikinis. You are likely to be forever conscious that people are looking at your breasts, and are anxious about keeping them covered up.
Breast reduction surgery is a procedure to reduce breast size and relieve all of these symptoms. Back and neck pain disappears almost overnight, and you will be much less self conscious about what you wear. A reduction of even a couple of cup sizes can make you look much more in proportion, and ease the discomfort you feel exercising. The surgery gives great results, with satisfied clients always saying “I wish I’d done this sooner!” For examples of how Dr Kohout has changed women’s lives with breast reduction surgery, see the photo gallery.

Breast reduction – the procedure
Breast reduction surgery is performed under general anaesthetic and will take around three hours. Usually three incisions will be made in your breasts to remove excess tissue, fat and skin. The nipples and areolas are then moved to a higher position. Surgical drains are then positioned in your breasts to remove any fluids. You will also have stitches and support bandages at first.
Recovery
The day after surgery you are encouraged to get out of bed to move around, and within a few days you should be able to move around comfortably, although any strenuous activity should be avoided. The drains will be removed after a day or two and your stitches will be removed after about a week. As with any surgery, you will have some bruising and swelling, but should feel normal after a week or two and you will be able to go back to work. However we recommend taking it easy for about six weeks as your breasts will be tender.
