Having problems with large, heavy breasts?

Breast reduction – the procedure

Breast reduction surgery is performed under general anaesthetic and will take around three hours. Usually three incisions will be made in your breasts to remove excess tissue, fat and skin. The nipples and areolas are then moved to a higher position. Surgical drains are then positioned in your breasts to remove any fluids. You will also have stitches and support bandages at first.

Recovery

The day after surgery you are encouraged to get out of bed to move around, and within a few days you should be able to move around comfortably, although any strenuous activity should be avoided. The drains will be removed after a day or two and your stitches will be removed after about a week. As with any surgery, you will have some bruising and swelling, but should feel normal after a week or two and you will be able to go back to work. However we recommend taking it easy for about six weeks as your breasts will be tender.
