This product has recently been approved for use for treatment of facial wrinkles by the Australian TGA. It is very effective in minimising facial lines and wrinkles around the eye and forehead.

What is this product?
It is a highly purified preparation which blocks muscle action and minimises the wrinkles associated with over active muscles. It does not produce numbness or disturbance of sensation.

What areas are suitable for this treatment?

  • Forehead: forehead lines are ideal for this treatment.
  • Frown lines between the eyebrows.
  • Crows feet around the eyes that are caused by the action of underlying facial muscles.

After treatment the overlying skin remains smooth and unwrinkled while the untreated facial muscles contract normally.

Patient Comfort
We provide Entonox (happy gas) for the comfort of our patients. Entonox is a gas, made up of 50 per cent oxygen and 50 per cent nitrous oxide. We use this for pain relief for injections and chemical peels.

How is the treatment performed?
A small amount is injected via a fine needle into the desired area. The sensation is likened to an insect bite and no local anaesthetic is required. Several injections are needed for each treatment. Treatment takes approximately 15 minutes depending on the area treated. You can resume normal activities immediately.

How long does it last?
The effects last for 3-6 months. The results are usually evident about three days after treatment although can take up to 1-2 weeks. If you have a repeat treatment, the results generally last longer than the first time. The more treatments you have, the longer the effects of subsequent injections.

Are there any specific instructions to follow after surgery?
Wrinkling the injected muscle and using it, helps the compound to bind to the injected muscle and take effect faster. It is important not to rub the injection site for several hours after treatment as this may cause the compound to spread into adjacent muscles. You must not lie down for four hours after treatment.

Are there any risks?
Swelling may be experienced at the injection site. If this occurs, it will generally resolve within a day or so. Bruising is uncommon but may occur. Bruising may persist for several days. Rarely, drooping of an eyelid or eyebrow may occur after forehead treatment. Altered facial expression can be experienced. As the effects of the treatment are not permanent, any side effects should be temporary. On very rare occasions, double vision can be experienced for several weeks.

Can other procedures be performed at the same time?
This product is only effective for wrinkles that are caused by muscle contraction, other treatments can be used concurrently, such as dermal fillers, or laser resurfacing, to achieve the results you desire.
